
Julie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18th 2000) is an American actress and singer who spanned more than 40 years. London, a torch singer known for her smooth, melodic vocals and her languid contralto voice and recorded more than 30 albums of pop and jazz classics between 1955 and 1969. Inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001, she recorded "Cry me a river" which she had included on her debut album. In addition to the music-related recognition, London was nominated for a Golden Globe Award in 1974 for her performance as nurse Dixie McCall in the television series Emergency!. London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. Her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's acting career of 35 years began in the film industry in 1944. It featured parts in the lead female in various westerns. In the late 1950s, she signed a recording contract with Liberty Records, marking the beginning of her professional career. Her final studio album was released in 1969. She continued to enjoy success as the female star role in the role of Dixie McCall on the television show Emergency! (1972-1979), in which she was portrayed by her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb, her ex-husband, produced the show.
