Salma Hayek
Salma Hayek was born in Mexico, to parents of Spanish and Lebanese descent. Salma Hayek grew up in Mexico into a privileged Roman Catholic family. As a child, she was inspired to pursue a career in acting after watching the movie "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.' In Mexico City, where she studied at the "Universidad Iberoamericana," the actress was ready to join the industry of film. In the Mexican television show 'Teresa' she was the first to make her debut an actor. She was cast in the movie "Desperado" alongside Antonio Banderas after arriving in Hollywood. Later, she was cast in "Fools Rush In" and "Wild Wild West", amongst others. In 'Once Upon a Time in Mexico,' she reprised her role as "Desperado.' She later founded her own production firm called Ventanarosa. Her first production was the Mexican film, 'El Coronel Teiene Queen Le Escriba that is Mexico's entry into the 'Oscars' in the 'Best Foreign Film' category. Her producer's role in "Ugly Betty" was a different accomplishment. The 1959 Primetime Emmy Awards nominated her for "Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series" in the role of Sofia Reyes. In addition, she has been an endorser for products such as 'Revlon' or 'Avon' and has launched her own brand of cosmetics, skincare as well as hair care products dubbed 'Nuance.' The campaign helped to raise funds to purchase vaccines in order to protect infant or maternal tetanus.
